MANAGING PARTNERS - James F. Early
James F. Early is the founding partner and president of Early, Ludwick, Sweeney & Strauss, an affiliation of law companies and partnerships, including Early, Ludwick & Sweeney, LLC, Early & Strauss, LLC, and Early & Meneo, LLP. These firms have offices in New York City and New Haven, Connecticut. They represent persons injured as a result of exposure to asbestos, lead paint, Fen-phen, phenylpropanolamine (PPA), benzene, and other toxic substances.
Attorney Early has been representing victims of asbestos disease for more than 25 years. Presently, he and Attorney Meneo manage and coordinate all of the Firm's litigation. In the 1980s he was one of the pioneers of asbestos products liability and workers' compensation cases in Connecticut. He has had the honor of having been appointed lead counsel for asbestos and lead paint plaintiffs by the State Courts of Connecticut. As a member of the Official Committee of Asbestos Creditors in the Johns-Manville, Raymark, and United States Gypsum Bankruptcies, he continues to take an operative role, both locally and nationally, in the issues facing asbestos plaintiffs today.
Attorney Early is a tireless advocate for people injured by defective products including asbestos, lead paint, Sulzer® Hip Prosthesis and the pharmaceuticals Baycol®, Rezulin®, Propulsid®, the Diet Drugs Pondimin® and Redux® (part of the deadly fen-phen combination) and phenylpropanolmine (PPA), an ingedient formerly used in appetite suppressants and cough/cold products. He continues to represent claimants in the Nationwide Diet Drug (fen-phen) Class Action Settlement, as well as those who have developed primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH) after taking Diet Drugs. Attorney Early and his firm play an active role in the emergence of phenylpropanolamine (PPA) litigation. As a member of the PPA Multi-District Litigation State-Federal Court Liaison Committee, Attorney Early helps coordinate the managment of litigation issues common to both the state and federal PPA litigation.
Attorney Early's clients have received hundreds of millions of dollars in compensation from the makers and sellers of defective and dangerous products. In recognition of extreme dedication and success, as well as high ability and impeccable ethics, Attorney Early and his firm have received Martindale-Hubbell's highest rating, AV, for overall excellence.
Attorney Early graduated from Harvard College in 1968 with a Bachelor's degree in Government. He earned his J.D. in 1971 from Boston University School of Law. He was admitted to the New Hampshire Bar Association and U.S. District Court, District of New Hampshire in 1971. In 1973 he became a member of the U.S. court of Appeals, 1st Circuit. He was admitted to the Connecticut Bar Association and U.S. District Court, District of Connecticut, in 1975, and in 1977 became a member of the U.S. court of Appeals, 2nd Circuit. In 1987 he became a member of the United States District Court, District of Rhode Island.
He is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association. He is a patron of Trial Lawyers for Public Justice, and his firm was elected to the Association of Trial Lawyers of America Leaders Forum in 2001 in recognition of extraordinary commitment and achievement. He was born in Derby, Connecticut, in 1946. He is married and has two children.
